The bicycle is the best transportation tool to deal with the problems of air pollution, traffic jams, and the energy crisis. People in Holland use bicycles more than any other people in the world. There are cycling roads everywhere, and people can take their bicycles onto trains. The government is promoting a plan to reduce the number of cars and to encourage more use of bicycles. In Japan, every second person has a bicycle, but there are very few decent cycling roads or parking lots. Riders often run into people walking. In the big cities, commuters’ bicycles are piled onto the streets. Further use of bicycles could be encouraged if these problems were solved.
