1. Did you know that all world maps do not look exactly the same?

2. There is no need to remind everyone that there is only one planet Earth, but maps showing this earth are not all the same.

3. They are designed differently.  Maps are designed depending on the point of view of the mapmaker.

When you think about the whole world spread out on a map, how do you think of it?  Where is Japan?  Where is America?  Where is Europe?

4. Maps made here in Japan show Japan in the center, Australia below, North and South America on the right side of the map and Africa and Europe on the left.

　全ての世界地図が全く同じ様に見えるわけではないことを知っていましたか。地球が一つしかないことを誰もに思い出させる必要はないですが、この地球を示す地図は全く同じであるわけではないのです。それらはデザインが異なっているのです。地図は、その作成者の視点によって作り方が決まるのです。

　地図に載っている全世界について考えてみると、どの様にしてそれを思い浮かべるでしょう。日本はどこにあるでしょう。アメリカは何処にあるでしょう。ヨーロッパは何処でしょう。

　この日本で作られる地図は、日本を中心に示し、オーストラリアを下に示し、南北アメリカを右に、ヨーロッパを左に示します。しかしながら、アメリカで作られた地図は、南北アメリカを中心に置き、ヨーロッパとアフリカを右側に日本とオーストアラリアを左側に配置します。その視点次第なのです。ある意味、世界地図は、我々の世界観の象徴なのです。日本の地図は、日本を世界の構図の真ん中に示します。アメリカ人にとっては、アメリカが中心点なのです。そのためにアメリカがその世界地図の中心なのです。オーストラリア人によって作られた、オースとラリを中心とした地図だってあるのです。この地図では、他の全ての国々が逆さになっていいます。例えば、この地図では、日本は、オーストラリアの下にあり南北アメリカは、左側にあるなどといった具合です。地球は一つしかありませんが、その見方は沢山あるのです。人の世界は、その人の見方次第なのです。
